My Love for You
My love for you
It's honey, gliding down your crown to your cheeks, Taking time to trickle and trace the contours of your soul.
A flame in summer; a blaze in winter— tending the heat that enfolds your heart.
But what if I told you, my love is otherwise?
Fierce and immense like the sun, best enjoyed near dawn and dusk. So, I remain afar.
And what if I told you, I love to the ends?
As the ocean bed drawing you into sable silence; As the snow moon baring its will over crystalline fields.
What if I showed you, This love that I am once upon a lifetime?
This piece emerged from a recent writing workshop I led, in which I invited participants to freewrite to the prompt, “My love for you is….” This prompt was inspired by an excerpt, titled “Truth: The Dreams of Bears”, from “The Unwinding: and other dreamings” by Jackie Morris
Through writing and seeing the manifold ways we express love, we also come to feel and return to the love that we are.
